CRANBERRY COLORAMA CELEBRATES FALL COLORS, CRANBERRY HARVEST |

October 3, 2007: “Decadent Cranberry Chocolate Delight” Wins ‘Best Overall’ at Manitowish Waters Chamber’s 9th Annual Cranberry Colorama Cooking Contest Suzy Foster of Presque Isle, Wis., took top “Best Overall” honors with Decadent Cranberry Chocolate Delight dessert at the Manitowish Waters Chamber’s 9th Annual Cranberry Cooking Contest at Cranberry Colorama, Sept. 29. Sixteen entries were submitted from folks in Manitowish Waters, Presque Isle, New Berlin, Winchester, Minocqua and Boulder Junction. Top honors in each category were awarded to the following: Breads/Muffins/Desserts 1st place ~ Virginia Szymanski -- Manitowish Waters, WI – Cranberry Tiramisu 2nd place ~ Mary Hanson – Manitowish Waters, WI -- Cranberry Ribbon Cheesecake 3rd place ~ Ramona Wroblewski – Manitowish Waters, WI – Cranberry Apple Crunch Main Dishes/Salads/Appetizers 1st place ~ Betty Watkins – Manitowish Waters, WI -- Cranberry Pizza Appetizer 2nd place ~ Annette Tellefson – Manitowish Waters, WI – Cranberry Sweet & Sour Meatballs Sauces/Jams-Jellies/Miscellaneous 1st place ~ Peg Connor – Minocqua, WI – Brandy Berry Sauce 2nd place ~ Bobbie Behnke – Manitowish Waters, WI -- White Chocolate Fudge 3rd place ~ Howard Hasselhas – New Berlin, WI – Homemade Cranberry Raspberry Peach Blueberry Wine Best Overall Suzy Foster – Presque Isle, WI – Decadent Cranberry Chocolate Delight Prizes donated by Alder Lake Cranberry and Cranberry Square at Vilas Cranberry Co. were awarded to these top 10 winners. All entrants received a coupon for a pound of fresh cranberries from Alder Lake Cranberry and a recipe booklet containing the 2006 Cranberry Cooking Contest recipes compliments of the Chamber. Judges were Chuck DeCarlo, John Hanson, Jean Rein and Mark Suckow. Contest chairperson was Jean Eales, with Elodie Bacci, Penny Benson, and Mary Bowlus assisting. Copies of the 2007 cooking contest recipe booklets will be compiled into a booklet and made available for sale by the start of the 2008 cranberry marsh tour season (early-July). Plans are already underway for an extra special 10th annual Cranberry Cooking Contest in 2008! Cranberry Colorama is an annual event which celebrates the fall color and cranberry harvest seasons of Manitowish Waters, sponsored by the Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce. Always held the last Saturday of September, Cranberry Colorama features free cranberry marsh tours, fall color pontoon tours on the Manitowish chain (weather and lake levels permitting), craft exhibitors, Lioness bake sale, complimentary cranberry juice & Craisin samples, live music, Taste of Harvest featuring some of the area’s fine restaurants, Cranberry Cooking Contest, raffles & educational booths, and more. The 2007 event also featured a cranberry count contest which was won by Rachel Zarling of Watertown, WI. She had the closest guess of 2,025 cranberries to the accurate count of 2,036. She received a cranberry harvest gift box compliments of Alder Lake Cranberry featuring a 3-pound box of fresh cranberries, recipes, and two pounds of sweetened dried cranberries. Cranberries are the official fruit of Wisconsin!
